Ocean Buffet
345 W. Foothill Boulevard, Upland, CA 91786 Phone: (909) 892-6999 The HOV Trekker crew was looking for a dinner adventure and saw Ocean Buffet's ad in a local coupon magazine. We saw the photos of their food offerings and were attracted by their fresh seafood offerings, including oysters and crab legs.
The HOV Trekker crew visited Ocean Buffet on a Friday for dinner armed with a $9.99 per person coupon. When the crew walked in, we were greeted by a hostess/manager and were taken to our table in the main dining area. The dining area was clean and spacious, but due to the high ceiling, the area needed little more decorations for "homey" feeling. Also, compared to the size of the dining area, the food area felt small and inadequate in size. However, they delivered on the selection and quality of food.
The food offerings included salads, soups, Chinese entrees, seafood, sushi, desserts, fruits and ice creams.
While dining, the crew noticed a female server constantly making rounds refilling serving trays and making announcements over their PA system to the kitchen for food to prepare in Chinese.
After surveying the food offerings the HOV Trekker crew tried different menu items.
The Daddy and Mommy Trekkers tried oysters which could have been little more fresher but couldn't complain as we were at a Chinese buffet not an upscale oyster bar.
Snow crab legs weren't as big as some other buffets but they were satisfying.
Hot and sour soup wasn't "hot" and thick enough for Daddy HOV Trekker but Mommy HOV Trekker thought it was good.
The sushi station had an Asian woman sushi chef making different sushi and rolls. The tuna and salmon on the sushi were very thinly sliced but that is typical of buffet sushi.
For a Chinese buffet, they had a reasonable selection of sushi and rolls.
Baby HOV Trekker loved their chow mein and string beans.
Finally, their self-serving ice cream bar was a hit with the Baby HOV Trekker. There were 8 different flavors including vanilla, strawberry, butter pecan, and mint.
Baby HOV Trekker had three servings of strawberry ice cream on ice cream cones.
On the quality of service, our waitress kept her eyes on us initially but her attention was diverted as more diners came to our section. Still, she promptly brought drink refills when asked and took away empty plates before they were out of control.
Overall, Ocean Buffet had their share of hits and misses. But for the price of $9.99 per person for dinner Monday through Friday with a coupon, Ocean Buffet offered good food and service.
Ultimately, would the HOV Trekker crew go back to Ocean Buffet?
