The HOV Trekker crew was invited to go the Aquarium of the Pacific located in downtown Long Beach, California by Baby HOV Trekker's friend's family. We went on a Thursday afternoon in July.

The Aquarium of the Pacific has indoor exhibits and outdoor areas featuring Shark Lagoon, Lorikeet Forest, the Molina Animal Care Center and the Watershed Exhibit. Exhibits are organized with focus on the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can see sea creatures of the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Baja, Mexico, including king crabs, lobsters and sharks. There are also areas where kids of all ages to touch jelly fish, rays and sharks.

The HOV Trekker crew highly recommends the touch pools for the rays and sharks. Also, don't miss the sea dragons. They are fascinating creatures with graceful movements inside their tanks.

It is an interesting and educational place to visit with children. However, it is small compared to other sea attractions like Sea World and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Even with a couple of two year-olds, we were able to see the entire exhibits within an hour.

The biggest drawback to the visit is the admission. Adult admission is $24.95 and children (ages 3 - 11) admission is $12.95. If you pay full admission, you may feel little rip off. However, you can look for various discounted admission ease the pain. When the HOV Trekker crew went, the Aquarium offered a half off discount for admission after 5 p.m. The HOV Trekker crew paid $25.90 for Daddy and Mommy HOV Trekkers and free for Baby HOV Trekker. (she is two and a half years old.) The Aquarium offers discounts for purchasing online and to AAA members. Also, you should check with fast food restaurant chains such as McDonald's, Burger King and Jack in the Box. They sometimes offer discount voucher for admission to The Aquarium of the Pacific.

The HOV Trekker crew will go back to see more sea creatures but will wait until we can find an attractive discount offer. The Aquarium of the Pacific is fun place to visit but not at its full adult admission.

L.A. County Fair
The annual Los Angeles County Fair is returning to the Pomona Fairplex. The Fair will be open Wednesday - Sunday, September 3 - October 2, 2011. For the opening Labor Day Weekend, the Fair has discounted $1 admission between 10 AM - 1 PM, $1 22oz. soft drinks between 1 PM - 4 PM, and $1 carnival rides and games between 4 PM - 7 PM. Regular admission fees apply after 1 PM to closing but kids under 5 and under are FREE every day.
