A former racing driver turned an iconic designer of high-performance, street-legal cars whose work include 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang died at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. The cause of death was not disclosed. He was 89.

Martin Luther King, Jr. once called him "one of the nation's the most courageous freedom fighters...a wiry, energetic and indomitable man." He was 89.

A secretive Polish poet who was called Poland's "guardian spirit" by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1996 died of lung cancer in Krakow. She was 88.
