Angelo Dundee - 2012
A Hall of Fame boxing trainer who trained Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and 15 world champions in a long career died of a complication from a blood clot developed during a flight home after visiting Ali for his 70th birthday at a rehabilitation center in Clearwater, Florida. He was 90.
Wislawa Szymborska - 2012
A secretive Polish poet who was called Poland's "guardian spirit" by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1996 died of lung cancer in Krakow. She was 88.

Ben Gazzara - 2012
An alumus of the Actors Studio and a winner of an Emmy Award who found fame on Broadway in the 1950s and appeared in more than 100 films and TV movies during the prolific 60-year acting career died of pancreatic cancer in New York City. He was 81.

Arthur Ashe - 1993
A professional tennis player who was the only black man to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open or Austrialian Open died of AIDS-related pneumonia in New York City, New York. He had contracted HIV via blood transfusions during his second heart surgery in 1983. He was 49.

Jill Kinmont Boothe - 2012
The national women's slalom champion who was paralyzed below her shoulders after a crash during a race in 1955 which would have put her on the U.S. Olympic ski team died of complications related to surgery at a hospital in Carson City, Nevada. She was 75.

Jeffrey Zaslow - 2012
A Wall Stree Journal reporter who co-wrote 2008 bestseller "The Last Lecture" with late Randy Pausch, a terminally ill professor at Carnegie Mellon University, about life lessons from a dying man died in a car crash in northern Michigan. He was 53.

Whitney Houston - 2012
A pop superstar, who saw her career top the music charts in the 1980s and 1990s and starred in numerous movies but had troubled personal life, including drug addictions and tumulous marriage to fellow singer Bobby Brown, was found unresponsive in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and pronunced dead later. She was 48.

A Hall of Fame catcher for Montreal Expos and New York Mets whose heroics led to 1986 World Series Championship for New York mets died of malignant brain tumor at a hospice in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 57.

William Hamilton - 2012
A theologian and a member of the Death of God movement in 1960s whose 1966 book "Radical Theology and the Death of God" spuured "Is God Dead" debate has died of complications from congestive heart failure at his home in Portland, Oregon. He was 87.

Davy Jones - 2012
The lead singer of The Monkees, a rock group modeled after the Beatles and featured on a television show with the same name which followed the rock group whose members included Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, died of a heart attack in Indiantown, Florida. He was 66.
