George Whitman - 2011
The legendary founder of Shakespeare & Co., a Paris bookstore and literary institution, where over 50,000 young, struggling writers were sheltered for free and became an attraction for book lovers and writers from all over the world died of complications from a stroke in the apartment above the bookshop. He was 98.

A legendary British stage and movie star who was once heralded as the greatest British actor of his generation died of esophageal cancer in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was 75.

The North Korean dictator who inherited the power from his father Kim Il Sung in 1994 after his death and pursued nuclear program to develop nuclear weapons causing his country to become one of the poorest in the world died of a heart on a train. He was 69.

A former playwright who was a leader in the revolution against the totalitarian communist regime and the Czechoslovakia's first democratically elected president died at his weekend home in northern Czech Republic. He was 75.

A star entertainer who had major hits as a singer, actor, and comedian and was associated with Jerry Lewis and the "Rat Pack" died of acute respiratory failure resulting from emphysema at his home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 78.
