· Social Media Bill Passes in California Assembly
California State Assembly passed a bill that would ban employers from asking for user names and passwords on social networking websites from job seekers and employees. The bill still must be passes by the State Senate and signed by the Governor to become law.
· U.S. economy adds 120,000 workers in March, 2012.
· Unemployment rate in the U.S. falls to 8.2% in March, 2012.

· Hewlett-Packard reportedly considering job cuts of at least 25,000. (May 17, 2012)
· Fedex will add 20,000 seasonal workers to handle holiday business.
· Amgen announced plan to lay off 380 R&D workers.
· Lowe's plans to close 20 stores and cut 1,950 employees.
· Chrysler inks new 4-year labor deal with UAW that will create 2,100 jobs.
· Siemens' general counsel told CNBC that the company is seeking 3,000 employees in the U.S. The company is willing to train them.
· State Compensation Insurance Fund, California's largest workers' compensation insurance company, announced plans to lay off 1,500 to 1,800 civil service workers by the second quarter 2012.
· Toys R Us plans to hire about 40,000 seasonal workers to handle holiday shopping rush.
· Amscan Holdings, Inc., owner of Halloween City and Party City, plans to hire combined 26,000 workers.
· Ford will add 5,750 new employees as a part of new UAW contract.
Higher Minimum Wages For 2012
The workers who earn minimum wage in eight states will have bigger paychecks starting on January 1, 2012, thanks to automatic increases in rates:
Arizona, $7.65/hr ($0.30 increase)
Colorado, $7.64/hr ($0.28 increase)
Florida, $7.67/hr ($0.36 increase)
Montana, $7.65/hr ($0.30 increase)
Ohio, $7.70/hr ($0.30 increase)
Oregon, $8.80/hr ($0.30 increase)
Vermont, $8.46/hr ($0.31 increase)
Washington, $9.04/hr ($0.37 increase)
Nevada revises its minimum wage in July and Missouri minimum wage remains at $7.25/hr.
